In Europe, sipping and dipping food is an everyday way of life. A walk along some of the most popular artisan streets will bring you numerous cafes, wineries and specialty shops. People congregate to enjoy amazing artisan food, drinks and most importantly, each other's company.

We started with “pop-up” events in 2014. Our mission was to enable the everyday consumer, here in the United States, to enjoy and appreciate the key nutritional value of the foundational ingredients of the Mediterranean diet – Oil and Vinegar. In June 2019, the popularity of our products led us to expand our vision beyond Oil and Vinegar, which led us to opening our artisan bistro and market at Balls Ford Center.

In January 2020, we renovated our bistro, which is intimate and naturally limits the number of guests and focuses more on improving the customer experience. In light of our responses to the challenges introduced to the restaurant industry as a result of COVID-19, which include more hands-free features and better ventilation, our bistro is uniquely suited to provide a safe customer experience where guests can feel at-home and at ease when they visit us.

Meet The Owner

Elias Zarkadoulas, owner of Taste of Old Country, son of Greek immigrant parents and proud father of 3 young boys, grew up enjoying his mother’s cooking, which was always themed around the finest, most authentic Mediterranean ingredients. Pastitio and baklava were family favorites at the Thanksgiving table! Elias recognized there was a way to bring a taste of his old country to life for everyone to enjoy through the creation of his artisan bistro and market.

Come to Taste of Old Country where you will experience an extension of Elias’ home where everyone who comes through is like family. Just as his parents entertained guests from all over the world providing them with traditional “philoxenia,” Elias continues to do the same while sharing with you great food, genuine hospitality and good company.

WITH YOUR HELP, THE MORE BOTTLES WE RECYCLE, THE MORE WE DONATE!

Sustainability &
Scholarship Program

As we continue to find ways to promote sustainability and community, we are happy to share with you the annual Taste of Old Country "Pay it Forward" scholarship contest and fund that will be awarded to graduating high school seniors going on to college, living in Prince William County, VA. Here's how the program works: For every Taste of Old Country bottle returned to be recycled, Taste of Old Country will contribute $1.00 towards the Taste of Old Country scholarship drive and will also send your bottles off to be recycled, thus paying it forward and also promoting sustainability. All money raised from will then be awarded in the form of a scholarship to 3 selected Prince William County students graduating high school and going off to college. The selection will result from an essay contest that will take place, open to the first 50 Prince William Country High School students that apply. All essays will be reviewed by an independent committee comprised of 3 local Taste of Old Country patrons/volunteers, who will help determine the top 3 essay applicants. At the end of the contest year, the 3 selected students will receive 100% of the proceeds from our recycling program.
